Harold “Bud” Steinke

March 12, 1931 - February 14, 2017

Harold

Harold “Bud” Steinke of Janesville was born March 12, 1931, Bud passed away on February 14, 2017. The only child of Florence and Robert Steinke, Bud leaves behind the love of his life Shirley (Benoy) whom he would have celebrated 65 years of marriage to in June, 7 children, 19 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren – an impressive legacy for an only child!
Bud grew up on a farm in Ft. Atkinson, WI and moved to Janesville in 1960. He worked for General Motors, Fitzgerald & Weber Oil Co., ran Bud’s furnace repair business, sold real estate and finished his work life delivering plants and flowers for Centerway Floral. Those who knew Bud well will say that he had a way with words. His children and grandchildren would fondly refer to his quips as “Bud-isms”.
Bud enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and forever friends. He was always up for a rousing game of cards and enjoyed playing the game of bridge in his later years. He loved to travel with his wife and other family members and visited many of the great sites and national parks throughout the US.
He had his first of 3 open heart procedures 35 years ago. He was always willing to do whatever he could to live a longer and fuller life. He put up a tough and long battle, only to succumb to lung cancer surrounded by his family and many others who loved and cared for him.
Bud joined the Catholic faith soon after his first heart surgery in 1981. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Shirley; his children, Gordon (Leigh), Scott, Pamela (Richard Schimenek), Gina (Peter Storrs), Brett, Melinda (Glen Gevaart), Daniel (Lisa); his grandchildren, Andrew, Chad, Tara, Zachary, Erik, Matthew, Scottie, Abby, Richie, Laura, Sarah, Kristin, Kevin, David, Tyler, Lauren, Jacob, Mason, Gavin; and his Great-Grandchildren, Joe, Allison, Jake, Ashelynn, Ryleigh, Gabby, Savannah, Preston, Noah, Juliana, Kaden, Moselle, Arabella, and Theodore.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 Noon Friday, February 24, 2017 at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church with visitation at the church from 9;30 a.m. Friday until the time of the service. Private interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Vianney Church, Agrace Hospice or the family.
The family wishes to thank Agrace Hospice and the Rock Haven staff for the loving care they gave Bud. Henke-Clarson Funeral & Cremation Service (608-741-1713). www.henkeclarson.com
